First edition of this famous libel against the Republic of Venice. The anonymous author tries to prove that the original liberty of the Republic, so much praised by Venetian writers, does not exist any more, and that Venice is to be considered a dominion of the Roman Empire. By virtue of its conciness and erudition, the treatise had an enormeous success and was several times reprinted and translated. Cf. bookseller's description.
